Ever wonder why Demonoid is down, and you can’t access it? Is Demonoid down or just me? Here is an article explaining what had happened to Demonoid.
Last week Demonoid, one of the largest torrent and tracker site, had been targeted by DDos attack resulting for the site server to be down. But just as Demonoid recovers, the site has now been busted by Ukraine local authorities.
Source in Ukraine’s Interior Ministry says that the action was scheduled to coincide with the Deputy Prime Minister Valery Khoroshkovsky’s trip in to United Sates of America.
Investigators arrived at ColoCall, the first and the biggest data center in Ukraine and a place that has been Demonoid’s home in recent years, to shut down Demonoid. A ColoCall source confirmed that investigators have copied all the information from the Demonoid servers and sealed them.
While Demonoid did not break Ukranian law, by blocking all Ukranian IP addresses in order to avoid disturbing the locals, Demonoid still attracted the attention of Ukranian authorities.
A source said that Ukraine Interior Ministry has informed Kommersant that the raid on Demonoid was timed to match Deputy Prime Minister Valery Khoroshkovsky’s trip to the U.S.A., on the agenda on copyright infringement.
Ukraine on the other hand, had promised United States to improve its efforts towards enforcing copyright. While Demonoid’s servers are currently in custody, its site’s admin does not appear to be. ColoCall source would not state who’s behind the site, and only that Demonoid’s management is located in Mexico. So watch out, as Demonoid may yet be back.
