Windows 8 Release Preview Bypass Metro UI Boot Directly in Desktop

Wiz Techie Pinoy Tech Blog – Computer Problems Frequently Ask Question (FAQ) Q&A: How can I bypass the Windows 8 Release Preview Metro UI and boot directly in to the desktop? Is it possible to skip the Metro UI and go right into the Windows 8 desktop? Is there a way without using any third party apps and softwares that needed to be installed in the machine? I just want a quick access to the desktop, as being a Windows 7 user for years I’m not quite used to the Windows 8 Metro UI functionality.

Question:  I just need some help. I wanted to know if there is a way to bypass the Metro UI and boot directly into the desktop? I am using the Windows 8 Release Preview. I remember back in the Windows 8 Developer Preview edition that there is a registry hack to do this. Is this still valid in Windows 8 Release Preview? What would be the best way to skip the Windows 8 Metro and go directly to the desktop? I do not want to install any additional softwares, I just need a quick solution for this.

Answer:

First, the regedit hack to disable the Metro UI in the Windows 8 Developer Preview won’t work anymore. The regedit trick was already removed during the Windows 8 Consumer Preview edition. In your case, if you just wanted to bypass the Metro UI and boot directly to the desktop, we have a Windows 8 Release Preview trick for that. Note that this method will show the Windows 8 Metro UI for a couple of seconds, and then proceed directly to the desktop.

4. Move the “Desktop.scf” to the folder location above.

5. Reboot to test.
