How to Create Wifi Hotspot in Windows 8 Using a Free Program

This is the simplest way of creating Wi-Fi hotspot in your Windows 8 PC. Just download the software called Virtual Router Plus. It is a free open source software you can use for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012. What it does, is that it skips the hard work of manual procedure of creating a Wi-Fi hotspot for Windows 8. It broadcast your home Internet connection and shares it to Wi-Fi enabled mobile phone, tablets, laptop, etc.

Steps:

1. Dowload Virtual Wifi Hotspot for Windows 7/Windows 8.

2. Extract it.

3. Run the VirtualRouterPlus.exe (No installation needed. Run the .exe application not the config file.)

4. Wait for the program to launch.

5. Enter a name for your Wi-Fi network.

6. Create your Wi-Fi password.

7. Select the connection you wanted to share.

8. Click “Start” on the Virtual Router Plus.

How to Create Wifi Hotspot in Windows 8 Manually Using Command Prompt

Below are the steps to create a Wi-Fi hotspot on Windows 8 using CMD.

Steps:

1. Press “Windows Key + X” and choose the Command Prompt option. Alternatively you can press “Windows Key + X + C” or “Windows Key + R” then type in cmd.

2. On the Command Prompt, type in the command below:

netsh wlan set hosted networkssid=name of network key=network password

(E.g.: netsh wlan set hosted networkssid=Wiztechie.com key=Wiztechie.com)

3. Next, type in the command below:

netsh wlan start hostednetwork

4. Check if your virtual network was successfully created. Type in the command:

netsh wlan show hosted network

You should see your hosted network settings and status.

Done! At this point you should see that there’s a new connection at the Networks and Sharing Center which can be accessed using the Control Panel.

Now connect your Wi-Fi enabled device with the recently created WiFi hotspot. You have just learned how to turn your Windows 8 PC into a Wi-Fi hotspot.
